Training & Consulting

Soulga offers community-centred consulting and training with the goal of increasing capacity for organizations, movement studios and individuals committed to embodying anti-oppressive and anti-racist practices at a systemic and individual level.

Specialty Areas

  • Nya provides individuals and groups with a framework to understand the context, history, and manifestations of racism, as well as tools to build an anti-racist practice. Topics covered include but are not limited to: anti-Black racism, implicit bias, White privilege & supremacy, equitable hiring and recruitment and cross cultural communication. Through interactive activities and dialogue, participants will learn how to identify, examine, and disrupt systems that perpetuate racism—starting from the inside out. Nya also offers consulting and accessibility audits for businesses and non-profit organizations.

  • The Anti-Oppressive Wellness Workshop (AOWW) explores how yoga teacher trainees committed to honouring the roots of yoga must integrate anti-racist & anti-oppressive practices into their wellness offerings and everyday lives. This interactive workshop covers foundational concepts of anti-racism including oppression, bias, privilege and intersectionality. Wellness facilitators will be challenged to consider ways they can foster a culture of belongingness in wellness spaces through the use of inclusive language, environmental modifications and critical self-study of their personal values, biases & identities and awareness of intersectionality.

This interactive workshop can be added on to any teacher training program and customized based on the needs of your community.

  • Private yoga sessions can be very helpful for people who want more support in their yoga journey or for those who need a specifically designed practice either to resolve pain or limitations. Nya’s approach to yoga asana is informed by strength training, pilates and other movement modalities. Private sessions are tailored to the unique needs of your group and include an intake assessment to ensure your needs are met. Book a private class for your athletic team, friends, co-workers, family or yourself!

  • Audits for movement studios and organizations committed to promoting belonginess for equity deserving groups by eliminating physical, cultural and financial barriers to access.

  • The Critical-Self-Study Workshop explores the Niyama of Svadhyaya through the lens of anti-racism and anti-oppression.

What People Are Saying

“Nya's presence as a public figure and leader in the Yoga community is a gift. Her teaching, her mentorship, and her dedication as an anti-racist educator provides a powerful contribution towards a much-needed change in the "wellness world". As a white cis-gendered male teacher in the public domain, I have found Nya's work to be educational and clarifying. I came out of her Anti-Oppressive Wellness Workshop with a new language and a new understanding of my own privilege. With the tools and insights gained from studying with Nya and Soulga, I feel more equipped and ready to contribute meaningfully as a teacher - knowing I work and exist within a system built to maintain my privilege at the cost of others.”

“This will be the third time I am taking an anti-oppressive wellness seminar with Nya. I own a yoga studio in Toronto, and I asked Nya if she could lead a five hour session with our yoga teacher training students, to get them to be introspective and engage in addressing the oppressive tendencies that are deeply rooted in wellness spaces. We had students from various backgrounds, and Nya did a wonderful job at igniting discussion and making sure that all the students participated, felt heard, and comfortable asking any questions.

Nya teaches from a humble place of genuine care and curiosity, taking the time to address various issues. Everyone feels comfortable in her presence, which is a precursor to encouraging honest conversation. If a student asks a question that is beyond Nya‘s background, she does not pretend to know or answer on behalf of others. Although her knowledge and understanding is extensive, the scope of these topics are so vast that it is only appropriate to demonstrate that the work is never done, and there are some things that can only be answered by someone who has experienced said situation personally. She leads by example, which is a true quality of a leader.”
